Actor and director Abhay Singh Deol (born 15 March 1976) is well-known for his roles in Hindi, Kannada, and Tamil films. He made his acting début in the 2005 Imtiaz Ali romantic comedy Socha Na Tha, and he was born into the famous Deol family.

After his début was moderately successful, Deol went on to earn rave reviews for his work in films like Manorama Six Feet Under (2007) and Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (2008). In 2009, he starred as Dev in the contemporary adaptation of Devdas, Dev.D, a black comedy directed by Anurag Kashyap. Deol became more well-known after the film’s popularity.

After starting out in independent films, he became a major protagonist in the blockbuster road movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, directed by Zoya Akhtar. His first mention for a Filmfare Award came in the category of Best Supporting Actor for his outstanding performance. Since then, Deol has starred in both critically acclaimed indie films like Road, Movie (2010) and financially successful mainstream films like Raanjhanaa (2013) and Happy Bhag Jayegi (2014). (2016). Deol was born into a Sikh Jatt family to Ajit Singh Deol and Usha Deol. He is the nephew of actor Dharmendra, and the cousin of Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. Abhay Deol stated in an interview with Rediff that he is into acting not because of his father, but because he was involved in theatre since school. “At 18, I decided to take the plunge. It took me 10 years because I didn’t want to leave my education to get into films.”

His second film was Ahista Ahista in 2006 and his first 2007 release was Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. He won the Best Actor award at the MIAAC film festival in New York City and his 2008 movie Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!

was a big hit. He is also the pivotal person behind 2009 Bollywood film Dev.D, a modern day version of Devdas. Dev D directed by Anurag Kashyap was critically acclaimed and Abhay Deol’s performance was considered better than Dilip Kumar and Shahrukh Khan.
